POTTERY CLASSES
FOR CHILDREN
Pottery making is a wonderful enrichment activity that supports holistic development. Children of all ages enjoy squishing, squelching, pinching, rolling, poking, stretching and pounding the clay. Some children find it particularly soothing for releasing tension or frustration.

Each class is designed with a curriculum featuring themed projects to guide learning, while giving children the freedom to decorate, paint, and express their creativity, making each piece truly their own.

COURSE FEE
$360 for 6 sessions (1.5 hours each)
The fee includes basic clay, glazes and firing of pottery artworks.
Our Fundamental Course introduces children to the essential hand-building techniques that form the foundation of all pottery-making: pinching, coiling, slab-building, hollowing, and sculpture making with decorations. Pinching is the fundamental hand-building pottery method that enables the child to familiarize with clay. Children will pinch and decorate 3 ice cream bowls. Coiling is the traditional method of many potters. Coils are made using a number of long rolls of clay, circular and solid in cross-section. By lying in rings one on top of another, they form the walls of bowls. Slab-building is an extremely flexible method. It is best for defined shape with angles. Children will use the roller pin to make slabs of clay, cut them into desired shapes and join the slabs together to form pencil holder. Hollowing method is best used to make irregular forms and shapes. Children will make 2 boxes of their desired shape, for example, heart-shape, square, rectangle or even a pyramid box.
By the end of this course, your child will create and paint 7 unique pottery masterpieces to take home!

Advanced Course
Suitable for 5-14 years old
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Advanced hand-building techniques with emphasis on:
-
Hollowing method
-
Clay modelling
-
Design thinking and creative problem-solving
-
Independent project development
COURSE FEE
$360 for 6 sessions (1.5 hours each)
The fee includes basic clay, glazes and firing of pottery artworks.
Our Advanced Course is designed for children who have completed the Fundamental course. Each Advanced level focuses on different pottery methods to deepen your child's skills and creativity. In Advanced One, the emphasis is on Hollowing Method and Clay Modelling. Children will design their own box or bowl by asking themselves, "What is my favourite animal?" and challenging themselves to convert that into a functional bowl. Clay Cove has prepared pottery worksheets specially for each Advanced level, with 8 suggested projects designed to harness the pottery skills acquired in the fundamental course. At the same time, these projects encourage children to demonstrate their creativity, develop their thinking skills, and enhance their socio-emotional growth. We encourage children to innovate from the suggested projects or create something entirely from their imagination, making each piece a true reflection of their artistic journey.
By the end of each advanced course, your child will create and paint 4 unique pottery masterpieces to take home!
